Burying my head under the covers, I jot down today’s sights while moonlight lays a silver veil over the room. A place needs to be experienced in three dimensions; night and day are yin and yang, yielding entirely different feelings. Last night’s outlines reappeared this morning—still unfamiliar. Some questions in my mind found answers; others grew more mysterious.

The site is larger than I imagined. I picked my way along 4th-century paving stones; Roman game boards carved on kerbstones whispered of the market that once bustled here. A grand peristyle building is down to a single corner now; the mosaic geometrics have sunk several dozen centimeters, rippling with relief. Broken walls around the field caught the sun and turned into silhouettes. Under daylight the temple looked solemn and austere; the human faces carved beneath the top cornice, weathered by centuries of wind and rain, are still vivid. Watching light stripe through the columns, you know this truly was Apollo’s home ground.

A motorcycle that had “too much to drink” leaned on the roadside—reminding me everyone carries a different story; there’s no absolute right or wrong, only whether the story feels full. There are two theaters here: one large and shattered, one small and exquisite. Same architecture, same acoustics—whether man and beast in combat or a voice in perfect song, sound reaches every ear in the house, full and clear. These arenas satisfied the era’s appetite for both blood and grace. Sit in one seat and you can almost hear the crowd roar as a sword pierces a lion’s heart and blood sprays skyward; or the hopeless screams of a heretic tied to a post and torn by beasts; or the thunder of applause after a breathtaking aria. Across all ages, how to satisfy the mind and the heart is a problem no one has fully solved.

2019年11月9日 地中海沿岸·阿波罗神庙遗址 鳗说鳗聊
● 把头埋在被窝里记录今天的所见所闻，窗外的月光把屋子里的器物笼罩上一层银色的纱。一个场景真的需要立体的体验，夜晚和白天的阴阳变换完全应出不一样的感觉。昨夜的轮廓都清晰的再次呈现出来，依然陌生，心中的疑问有的已经解开，有的越加神秘。遗址的面积比想象中的还要大，深一脚浅一脚的走在四世纪的石板路上，路边石条上刻画的罗马棋盘告诉我当时繁华的市集就在这里，四面回廊的雄伟建筑已经就剩下了一个拐角边，地上的马赛克几何印花已经下沉了数十厘米，波浪起伏很有立体感。周边的残垣断壁配合着阳光洒下的金色有着剪影的感觉。神庙也在阳光下显得威严肃穆，最上层屋檐下的人脸雕刻经过几个世纪风雨残蚀依然都很生动，看着光穿过石柱产生的线条，这里名副其实是阿波罗的主场。
● 一台喝多了的机车停在路边，映射着每个人都有着不同的故事，无为对错，丰满就好。两个大剧院，一个大而破碎，一个小而精致，同样的结构有着共同的声音效果，无论是人与猛兽的厮杀，还是美妙绝伦的歌唱，都能立体且清晰的传进在场每一名观众耳中。这些角斗场或是大剧院完全满足了当时各种血腥和高雅并存的娱乐需求，坐在一个位置，便能体会到长剑穿透狮子心脏血液直喷向天空时观众兴奋的呐喊，或是将异教徒绑在行刑柱上任由野兽撕咬时恐惧绝望的惨叫久久回荡不能散去，抑或是歌唱家的惊艳表演后全场掌声雷动和称赞不绝的话语四处飘散。人思想和心境的满足可能在什么时期都是一个难以周全的课题。
